Personnel from the Office of the University Council recently participated in the traditional “Hai Than Fai” (Giving Alms by Fire) ceremony at Wat Saeng Raeng, alongside interested staff and students. The initiative aimed to conserve local culture and foster strong community relations.
On January 22, 2026, at 5:00 AM, staff members from the Office of the University Council, together with Walailak University personnel, students, and local residents, gathered at Wat Saeng Raeng to uphold this cherished Southern Thai Buddhist tradition.
The primary objective of this event was to raise awareness among students, staff, and the general public regarding the significance of local heritage. The atmosphere was filled with warmth as participants prepared fresh traditional snacks and meals over open fires to offer to monks during the early dawn. This practice is believed to be a merit-making act that provides warmth to the monks during the cool early-year weather.
Beyond cultural preservation, the activity served as an excellent opportunity for university departments to engage with the surrounding community, strengthening unity and ensuring that the noble spirit of the “Hai Than Fai” tradition continues to thrive within the region.
